Pipefitter 2/C

Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding is recruiting for a Pipefitter 2/C to assist in the assembly, installation, and testing of piping for various systems in accordance with plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. The role requires working alongside other crafts under supervision and offers an opportunity for involvement in diverse activities associated with shipbuilding.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with the measurement, marking, cutting, threading, and assembly of pipes and fittings according to specifications.
• Select the appropriate type and size of pipe and fittings, valves, etc.
• Fabricate and install metal fittings, supports, valves, and other control equipment.
• Engage in the testing of installed piping systems.
• Follow directives for rigging and flagging cranes, using hand signals for the safe movement of pipes.
• Perform other related duties as needed, with minimal supervision.

Qualifications and Skills:

• High school diploma or GED equivalence, with one to three years of related pipefitting/plumbing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of pipe craft formulas, materials, and drawings essential for the maritime industry.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and to pass SMAW Tack welding tests to become ABS certified.
• Familiarity with safe operation standards and use of hand and power tools, with the ability to apply mathematical skills to the trade.

Physical Requirements:

• Regular communication and frequent use of hands in various tasks; including standing, walking, bending, and lifting/moving up to 50 pounds.
• Qualified to wear all required personal protective equipment under OSHA standards.

Work Environment:

• The work may require flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Exposure to risks such as electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, fumes, and loud noise within a heavy industrial shipyard setting.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
