Position Summary:
Eastern Shipbuilding is seeking a dedicated Pipe Welder Supervisor to oversee activities of workers engaged in the installation and assembly of piping systems within various maritime environments. This role blends hands-on technical skills with strong leadership and organizational abilities to ensure project requirements, safety standards, and quality control measures are met efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the work of welders and other craftspersons involved in pipe installation tasks.
- Comply with safety, ethics, environmental rules and regulations set by the company and regulatory authorities.
- Assign and monitor multiple work assignments across marine vessels, managing employee performance and productivity.
- Identify and correct inefficient welding practices to minimize rework and waste.
- Perform inspections of welds to ensure they meet ABS specifications, and assist in system troubleshooting.
- Input time and manage records using computer systems, and set up and execute quality assurance calls.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or GED equivalence with 1-3 years of shipyard experience and supervisory experience preferred.
- Capabilities in welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and/or aluminum within the shipbuilding industry.
- Knowledge of ship terminology, safety, OSHA, ABS regulations, and ability to manage a crew effectively.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and diagrams, and the application of mathematical skills for measurement and calculation.
Physical Requirements:
- Regular communication and frequent use of hands in various tasks; including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting/moving up to 50 pounds.
- Qualified to wear all required personal protective equipment under OSHA standards.
- Capability to work at heights and in confined spaces with exposure to extreme conditions.
Work Environment:
- A very active role that may require working beyond standard hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Exposure to risks such as electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, vibration, and loud noise within a heavy industrial shipyard setting.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Responsible for direct and/or indirect supervision and training of crew members assigned to their team.
