Position Summary: The QA Inspector 1/C at Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. is a critical position supporting government and commercial shipbuilding projects. This individual is responsible for conducting in-process and final inspections to ensure compliance with specifications, the company's Quality Management System (QMS), contractual requirements, and workmanship standards across various phases of ship construction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct various inspections including ship hull fabrication, module erection, tank close-out, tank leak testing, pipe fabrication, and machinery placement.
- Verify compliance with the contract inspection plans as well as inspections for Suppliers and/or Subcontractors.
- Interact with project construction team members, craft superintendents, customer representatives, and regulatory body inspectors coordinating quality inspections.
- Document and report deficient work and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain excellent record retention from inspections, checkpoints, or Objective Quality Evidence (OQE).
- Monitor compliance with the company QMS, workmanship standards, and contract requirements.
- Comply with company, Federal, State, and local safety, ethics, and environmental policies while performing duties.
- Conduct daily product verification inspections and surveillances to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Proven experience performing QA inspections in shipbuilding or related maritime construction environments.
- Familiarity with inspection techniques, specifications, drawings, and shipbuilding standards.
- Strong record-keeping abilities and thorough knowledge of QA processes and standards.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with various stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
- Proficiency in visual inspections of welds and understanding of acceptance criteria.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to traverse and work in shipyard setting, including climbing, kneeling, lifting, and working in confined spaces.
- Agility to bend, stoop, squat, navigate high steps/ladders, and lift up to 40 pounds without restrictions.
Work Environment:
- The position is full-time and may require flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Work is conducted in various areas of the shipyard, with exposure to differing weather conditions and operation of heavy equipment.
Reporting:
- Reports to the OPC Quality Assurance Manager.
- No supervisory responsibilities.
