Position Summary:
The Tugboat Engineer at Curtin Maritime is a crucial technical role that spans from junior engineer positions to Chief Engineer, responsible for maintaining and operating the vessel's machinery and systems. This role requires someone with a solid mechanical background, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work well under pressure. The engineer will work closely with the Port Engineer and Vessel Captain to ensure the vessels function efficiently, safely, and in line with Curtin Maritime's core values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle daily operation and maintenance of the vessel's mechanical and electronic systems.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of the engine room to the Curtin Standard.
  • Manage onboard inventories, work plans, and deckhands when applicable.
  • Collaborate closely with related departments for audits, regulatory compliance, and vessel management system (VMS) operations.
  • Participate in the training and development of fellow crew members from junior engineers to deckhands.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Required licenses and certifications for each engineering level, with DDE 4000 and OICEW preferred.
  • Experience with all Deckhand duties, knowledgeable in vessel systems, and advanced troubleshooting abilities.
  • Proven leadership and management skills with the experience to manage teams and hold individuals accountable.
  • Well-versed in various vessel operations, including tugs and cranes, experience in both dry-docking and new vessel commissioning.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move across uneven surfaces, climb ladders, lift heavy objects, and work in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to perform emergency duties and think clearly during stressful situations.

Work Environment:

  • Full-time position with significant time/travel away from home required.
  • Frequently requires long hours, weekend work, and offshore travel.
  • Remote work options might be available with project-specific scheduling.

Reporting:

  • Reports to the Port Engineer and collaborates closely with the Vessel Captain and other marine transportation personnel.

Location:
Long Beach, California (Remote work options available with travel)

Compensation:
Competitive pay ranging from $450 to $875 per day, depending on experience and qualifications.
