Position Summary:
The Port Captain at Curtin Maritime is a strategic leadership role within the Marine Transportation team, charged with the oversight and management of all vessel-related activities and operations. This position necessitates managing vessel crews, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and acting as a resource for crews and staff. Extensive experience in maritime operations, particularly towing and salvage, is preferred, along with robust project management competencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all vessel operations from bid award to project completion, collaborating with customers, crew, agents, and vendors to formulate voyage plans and project submittals.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the fleet's status to serve as a quality control expert and informational resource.
  • Develop and manage short- and long-term project schedules and respond quickly to operational exigencies.
  • Strategically create crew schedules with a keen understanding of individual skill sets to construct balanced teams in compliance with USCG COI’s.
  • Collaborate with the HSSE Department to ensure compliance with shipboard equipment standards, vessel certificates, and audit procedures.
  • Support the development and implementation of company training programs, delivering training sessions as necessary.
  • Uphold the Vessel Management System, Helm Connect, ensuring crew engagement and template accuracy.
  • Lead recruitment efforts, reviewing resumes, participating in interviews, and facilitating the onboarding process.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Master or Mate, with graduation from a Maritime Academy counting as 2 years.
  • Preferred candidates will have at least 10 years of sailing experience as a tugboat captain with expertise in ocean towing and salvage.
  • TWIC Card, a valid driver's license, and knowledge of ISM are essential.
  • Excellent communication, organizational skills, and adeptness in multitasking under deadline pressures are required.

Physical Requirements:

  • The employee is required to communicate effectively, both orally and audibly.
  • Must be able to use stairs regularly and handle physical aspects of the job.

Work Environment:

  • Remote work option available, but projects may necessitate extensive periods away from home and remote operations.
  • Regular travel is a component of the job to ensure hands-on management of marine operations.

Reporting:

  • Reports to senior leadership within the Marine Transportation department.
