Position Summary:
The Port Captain at Curtin Maritime plays a critical management role within the Marine Transportation team, overseeing all vessel-related activities, operations, and crew management. The position requires an experienced individual with strong leadership skills and an in-depth understanding of maritime operations to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant practices in line with the company's core pillars.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all vessel-related activities and operations from project inception to completion.
  • Serve as a project manager for marine transportation jobs, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain comprehensive fleet knowledge to ensure quality control and act as an informational resource.
  • Respond swiftly to operational exigencies and manage short- and long-term project scheduling.
  • Oversee crew management, schedule planning, performance evaluations, and career mentorship.
  • Collaborate with HSSE and Engineering departments to ensure compliance and address any corrective actions.
  • Support the development and delivery of company training programs and maintain the Vessel Management System, Helm Connect.
  • Participate in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding processes while ensuring compliance with training and equipment standards.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Extensive professional sailing experience as a Master or Mate, with a preference for at least a decade as a tugboat captain engaged in ocean towing/salvage.
  • TWIC Card, a valid driver's license, and ISM knowledge preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational, multitasking, communication, and time management skills, with the ability to manage deadlines effectively.
  • Familiarity with safety standards, training program development, and regulatory compliance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to converse and to discern verbal communication.
  • Ability to utilize stairs frequently and maintain high levels of activity.

Work Environment:

  • Ability and willingness to travel and work remotely for extended periods, sometimes in isolated environments.
  • Remote position, but projects may necessitate substantial periods of onsite management.

Reporting:

  • Reports directly to senior management within the Marine Transportation department.

Location:
Jacksonville, Florida (Remote with required travel)
