Job Description

Position Summary:
The Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) at Curtin Maritime is responsible for the safe operation, routine maintenance, and repair of the vessel’s diverse electrical and electronic systems. This role ensures compliance with the laws and regulations of the vessel’s flag, international standards, and company policies. The ETO will work under the supervision of a licensed officer and collaborate with on-board engineering staff to maintain the vessel’s operational readiness and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of the vessel's electrical systems, including power, propulsion, and auxiliary machinery.
  • Monitor, repair, and conduct preventive maintenance according to company procedures, focusing on crew safety and environmental protection.
  • Manage consumable spares, mechanical stores, and tool inventories responsibly.
  • Update and maintain maintenance schedules and reports within the Vessel Management System (VMS).
  • Lead and coordinate with assistant engineering staff to complete tasks and ensure satisfactory execution.
  • Perform the role of a deckhand as required and assist in general vessel maintenance.

Skills, Aptitudes, Qualifications, and Certifications:

  • Proficiency in handling stressful situations and a strong sense of responsibility and proactive work ethic.
  • Respect for the hierarchy and capability to follow directions efficiently.
  • Merchant Mariner Credential and USCG Medical Card are required.
  • Preferred but not mandatory: STCW Reg. III/6 Electro-Technical Officer and other relevant certifications.
  • Must be fit for duty, able to perform physically demanding tasks, work in confined spaces, and operate in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work aboard vessels using heavy equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Meet physical criteria post-job offer including pre-employment physical and drug testing.
  • Physical capability to navigate challenging shipboard environments and perform emergency tasks.

Work Environment:

  • The rotating schedule with travel required to project sites, accommodating the demands of maritime transportation operations.
  • The role may involve exposure to odors, dust, and potentially hazardous equipment.

Reporting:

  • Reports to the Chief Engineer and collaborates with marine operation teams.
