Position Summary:
The Dredge Port Engineer (Fleet/Shipyard Superintendent) at Curtin Maritime is a key role designed for highly accountable, ownership-driven individuals. This position supports the management of vessel operations and engineering staff, ensuring that policies, procedures, and tasks align with the company's values of efficiency, innovation, and integrity. With a focus on vessel maintenance and engineering, the role is ideal for candidates with on-vessel engineering experience and strong administrative skills who are looking to transition shoreside.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Senior Port Engineer with coordination and oversight of vessel engineers and shoreside support staff.
  • Support the implementation and enforcement of engineering policies and procedures.
  • Engage in purchasing activities related to vessel operations and coordinate closely with the purchasing department.
  • Oversee task enforcement and manage parts requests for vessel maintenance, repairs, and operations.
  • Utilize Helm Connect for managing work plans and ensuring proper use and data entry by staff.
  • Be involved in the drydock process, vessel mobilization, and outfitting, providing reports and feedback on progress and budgets.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering role aboard vessels or in a related mechanical capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle stress and multitask in a dynamic work environment.
  • Proficient in computer use and administrative management with experience in purchasing and operations.
  • TWIC Card holder and ability to travel as part of a 4-week on/off rotating schedule.
  • Strong leadership capabilities and an understanding of maritime engineering processes and regulations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, operating mechanical tools, and working in confined spaces and various weather conditions.
  • Compliance with safety protocols, and able to demonstrate safe handling of shipboard equipment.

Work Environment:

  • This is a hybrid position based in Long Beach, California, with significant travel requirements to various nationwide project sites.
  • Work schedule is a rotational 4-week on/off schedule, demanding flexibility and occasional long hours.

Reporting:

  • Reports directly to the Senior Port Engineer and collaborates with various departments in Marine Transportation.
