Position Summary:
The Dredge Engineer at Curtin Maritime is a multi-tiered position involving a range of engineering responsibilities across operational, maintenance, regulatory, and leadership domains. Engineers at varying levels (I-V) contribute their expertise to the operational excellence and innovation of the company while working within the framework of efficiency and integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and readiness of assigned dredging equipment, including creating and maintaining inventories and schedules for preventative maintenance.
- Facilitate and lead mobilization and demobilization phases of dredging projects.
- Coordinate project logistics, including third-party services, to maximize efficiencies and maintain safety standards.
- Ensure Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance, conduct JSAs or AHAs, and supervise contractors during maintenance periods.
- Implement the purchasing function aboard the dredge, approve purchases, and maintain accurate records and inventories.
- Supervise and develop crew members, manage project payroll, perform evaluations, and address any disciplinary needs.
Qualifications and Skills:
- TWIC Card and a valid Passport.
- Relevant Maritime Credentials for respective engineering levels, such as MMC, STCW, and DDE certifications.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in dredging operations, with clamshell dredge experience preferred.
- Strong mechanical reasoning skills and an understanding of dredge logistics and mechanical systems.
- Superior communication and leadership abilities, with a commitment to mentoring and training crew members.
- Proficient in technical and administrative aspects, including managing vessel management systems (VMS) and generating reports.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to traverse uneven ground, climb, and work in confined spaces while lifting heavy objects.
- Must pass a "fit for duty" examination, including a pre-employment physical and drug test.
Work Environment:
- The role demands significant time/travel away from home, often on a full-time basis with a 4 Weeks On/4 Weeks Off rotational schedule.
- Requires the flexibility to work long hours, weekends, and offshore travel.
Reporting:
- Directly reports to the VP of Dredging.
Location:
Varies - Nationwide travel with a base in Long Beach, California (Remote opportunities available)
