Job Description

Position Summary:
The Assistant Port Captain at Curtin Maritime is an essential member of the Marine Transportation team, contributing to the oversight and management of vessel operations and crew activities. This role entails supporting the Port Captain in strategic planning and execution of marine transportation jobs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and assisting with training program development and implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the comprehensive management of all vessel-related activities and operations.
  • Serve as project manager from bid award to completion on various marine transportation jobs.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the fleet's status and oversee the creation and execution of project schedules.
  • Collaborate in managing vessel crews, including scheduling, credential tracking, performance evaluations, and fostering career development.
  • Support HSSE in maintaining compliance of shipboard equipment, vessel documentation, and conduct vessel audits.
  • Participate in the development and facilitation of company training programs and maintain the Vessel Management System, Helm Connect.
  • Occasionally sail on vessels for training, compliance, or to provide additional support when necessary.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • USCG Licensed captain with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Master or Mate, preferably with a decade as a tugboat captain expert in ocean towing and marine construction.
  • Possession of a valid TWIC card and driver's license.
  • Strong proficiency in vessel management systems.
  • Excellent communication, multitasking, and organizational skills, with the ability to work under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Proficient in time management with attention to detail.

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid role based in Jacksonville, Florida, with travel to project sites as needed.
  • The role follows a flexible schedule to accommodate varying project demands and may involve sailing on vessels as required.

Reporting:

  • Reports to the Port Captain and collaborates with other Marine Transportation personnel.

Location:
Jacksonville, Florida (Hybrid with Nationwide travel)
