Job Description

Position Summary:
The Geological Engineer at Curtin Maritime is a specialized role focused on geotechnical aspects of dredging, contributing to dredging production estimating, and supporting the Director of DEPTH (Dredge Engineering, Production, Technology, and Hydrography). The position involves conducting geotechnical analyses for bidding projects, reviewing geotech for ongoing projects, and enhancing production strategies based on geotechnical data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform pre-bid geotechnical studies, analyze soil samples, borehole data, and geophysical surveys for dredgeability assessment.
  • Develop soil stratification models impacting dredging methods and equipment selection.
  • Prepare geotechnical deliverables for bid proposals and participate in review phases of potential dredging projects.
  • Collaborate with environmental specialists to uphold regulatory and environmental compliance.
  • Monitor and record project production, comparing actual sediment and production rates to estimates.
  • Offer high-level geotechnical guidance for ongoing projects to optimize strategies and operations.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 2+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering or a related field, with a focus on dredging operations.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related geology focus.
  • Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, sediment transport, and dredging methods.
  • Proficiency with specialized software such as AutoCAD, GIS, HYPACK, DREDGEPACK, and geotechnical analysis tools.
  • Skilled in interpreting technical reports, regulatory requirements, and performing numerical modeling of sediment behavior.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines and prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel to project sites or facilities as needed.
  • Ability to engage in site visits, collect samples, and interact with field teams for project support.

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid position with a base at Jacksonville, Florida, offering remote work flexibility.
  • Requires a minimum of 40 hours per week with potential overtime for estimate completion.

Reporting:

  • Supports and collaborates with the Director of DEPTH and relevant project teams.
