Job Description

Position Summary:
The Crane Operator/Leverman I, II, III at Curtin Maritime is responsible for the operation of various floating cranes and mechanical dredges nationwide, with an emphasis on safe, efficient material handling. These roles, divided into three levels of expertise, involve rigorous adherence to safety protocols, proactive maintenance and inspection of equipment, and effective coordination with crew members and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate cranes in accordance with safety procedures, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Perform daily inspections and maintain equipment to prevent malfunctions and ensure operational readiness.
  • Safely lift and transport materials and equipment, following directions from supervisors and relying on established communication protocols.
  • Train other crane operators as applicable and partake in continuous learning and skill enhancement.

Qualifications:

  • NCCCO License with LBC endorsements (TLL endorsement preferred).
  • TWIC Card.
  • Application submitted for MMC (Ordinary Seaman) or higher, depending on the operator level.
  • Pass Coast Guard physical & drug test.
  • Qualified Rigger, with extensive experience for higher-level positions.
  • For Crane Operator III: Mastery of clamshell and offshore crane operations, and the development of Critical Lift Plans.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs., engage in frequent lifting, pulling, operating heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work at heights, maintain balance, and possess proper tolerance to varying weather conditions.
  • Comfort with exposure to typical shipyard substances like grease, paint, and working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to swim.

Work Environment:

  • The position involves nationwide travel to different locations with possible extended stays away from home port.
  • Expectation of a minimum of 180 workdays per year, likely inclusive of long hours, weekend duties, and short-notice travel.

Reporting:

  • Reports to the Marine Transportation Department.

Location: Nationwide, with a scheduled full-time structure. Base office in Norfolk, Virginia.

Compensation:

  • Crane Operator I: $450 - $600/day
  • Crane Operator II: $550 - $650/day
  • Crane Operator III: $650+/day
