Job Description

Position Summary: The Assistant Port Engineer - Dredge plays an essential role at Curtin Maritime, providing critical support to the Port Engineer by overseeing vessel engineers and coordinating with engineering support staff on various marine transportation and construction projects. This hybrid role requires scheduled travel to various job sites and participation in on/off rotational work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Port Engineer in managing and tasking vessel engineers.
  • Act as a secondary point of contact for vessel engineers and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Support the implementation and enforcement of engineering policies and procedures.
  • Oversee purchasing for normal vessel operations in coordination with the purchasing department.
  • Utilize Helm Connect for managing and monitoring engineering operations.
  • Guide crews during vessel drydocking, reporting on progress, and managing budgets.
  • Aid in the mobilization and outfitting of vessels for long-term or specialized assignments.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in marine engineering or a related field.
  • Must possess a valid TWIC Card for maritime security access.
  • Capability to manage stress, follow command structures, and maintain a proactive approach to responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to enforce and adhere to company policies.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • This hybrid position involves working both onsite and remotely with a schedule of 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off.
  • Physical demands include walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to handle heavy equipment, work in inclement weather conditions, and adapt to various environments both on land and at sea.

Reporting: Reports directly to the Port Engineer and supports department needs as instructed.
