Position Summary: The Assistant Port Engineer - Dredge is a strategic and critical role at Curtin Maritime, dedicated to supporting the Port Engineer's management of vessel engineering operations and shoreside engineering staff. This individual assists with policy enforcement, purchasing, and the development of engineering tasks while upholding the company's core values of efficiency, innovation, and integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with managing vessel engineers and coordinating with the Port Engineer to assign and enforce tasks.
  • Act as a secondary point of contact for vessel engineers, ensuring timely completion of tasks and efficient delivery of requested parts.
  • Support engineering operations, including involvement in vessel drydock periods, mobilizations, and budget reporting.
  • Help develop and implement engineering policies, procedures, and training programs while actively participating in training.
  • Review and liaise on purchasing matters related to engineering operations, and track parts through coordination with vendors.
  • Utilize Helm Connect to monitor engineering tasks and ensure compliance and proper usage among staff.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of related experience in maritime engineering or a related field.
  • Possess a TWIC Card for security clearance in maritime sectors.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and strong collaborative skills.
  • Proven ability to work under stress and respond proactively in various situations.
  • Respect for chain of command and the ability to follow directions.
  • Familiarity with engineering software, such as Helm Connect, is advantageous.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel to various job sites and participate in a rotating shift pattern (4 weeks on /4 weeks off).
  • Capability to navigate challenging physical conditions, including confined spaces, lifting heavy objects, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Comfort working on boats and barges, and using mechanical tools for repairs.

Reporting:

  • Directly reports to the Port Engineer or designated supervisory position in the Dredge Overhead department.
