Position Summary: The Maintenance Electrician ensures the safe, reliable operation of shipyard equipment and facility electrical systems. Working closely with the maintenance department, this role performs scheduled preventative maintenance and responds to emergency repairs across a wide range of industrial and marine equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance on overhead and mobile cranes, forklifts, winches, yard vehicles, welding/gouging equipment, NC machines, and HVAC systems.
- Maintain and repair plant power distribution, lighting systems, MCCs, switchgear, motors, generators, VFDs, and control circuits (typically up to 480V three-phase).
- Diagnose electrical issues using schematics, wiring diagrams, and test instruments (multimeter, megger, etc.).
- Support PLC and control system troubleshooting and basic programming adjustments as required.
- Execute scheduled PMs, document work in the CMMS, and recommend improvements to reduce downtime.
- Perform facility electrical work, including installation, upgrades, and wiring to code.
- Coordinate with maintenance, production, and vendors to plan repairs and minimize disruption.
- Identify and requisition parts and materials; maintain inventory of critical spares.
- Adhere to LOTO, NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and shipyard safety procedures at all times.
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical/trade school or apprenticeship preferred.
- 3+ years of industrial, marine, or heavy equipment electrical maintenance experience.
- Strong knowledge of 480V three-phase systems, motors, VFDs, control circuits, and industrial instrumentation.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and equipment manuals.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and CMMS usage.
- Journeyman Electrician license preferred (or ability to obtain); OSHA 10/30 and NFPA 70E training a plus.
- Valid driver’s license; TWIC eligibility may be required.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Work in a shipyard environment, indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, climb, bend, work at heights and in confined spaces, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Availability for overtime, weekends, and on-call support.
Reporting:
- Reports to the Maintenance Manager (or Maintenance Supervisor).
