Job Description

Position Summary: The Structural Welding Supervisor has the critical role of directing and managing the welding workforce engaged in various production activities within the shipyard. This position encompasses the setting of schedules, delegating assignments, and devising production sequences to align with predetermined goals, while also contributing technical expertise to shipbuilding operations and allied trades.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee the work of welders and other personnel involved in production activities.
  • Develop work schedules, assign tasks, and set production sequences to meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and support in welding and fabrication processes to enhance efficiency and efficacy.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other trade supervisors to ensure smooth operations and adherence to project specifications.
  • Monitor welding activities to enforce safety protocols and quality control standards.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and recommend solutions to optimize welding procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in structural welding and a strong background in supervising welding personnel.
  • Knowledgeable about fabrication methods, welding techniques, and shipbuilding practices.
  • Proven ability to plan work schedules, establish job priorities, and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Acute understanding of health and safety regulations specific to welding and industrial environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, allowing effective coordination across various departments.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Work is primarily conducted on-site within the shipyard environment, which may involve exposure to high noise levels, heat, and fumes.
  • Ability to navigate the yard, move between projects, and engage with teams in the field.
  • The role may require occasional hands-on work, including lifting and operating equipment.

Reporting:

  • Reports directly to the General Foreman or Production Manager.
