Position Summary: The Crane Operator holds a vital role in material handling within the shipyard. Tasked with operating cranes, the individual is accountable for the safe and efficient transportation of various loads, demanding thorough knowledge of crane mechanics, safety regulations, and load dynamics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate various types of cranes to lift, transfer, and accurately position loads at the shipyard and other designated areas.
  • Manage the movement of heavy materials with a clear understanding of load dynamics and crane capacity.
  • Adhere to stringent safety procedures and guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure safe operations.
  • Inspect cranes for mechanical issues and perform routine maintenance to ensure operational reliability.
  • Collaborate with ground personnel and signalmen to ensure coordinated efforts during lifting procedures.
  • Keep precise records of crane usage, maintenance, and inspections.

Qualifications:

  • Valid crane operator certification and a proven track record of safely managing heavy lifting operations.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience operating cranes in construction sites, shipyards, or similar industrial contexts.
  • Robust understanding of load dynamics, crane mechanics, and material handling principles.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and the ability to implement safety checks and balances effectively.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and communication skills.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily on-site work at construction zones and shipyards, requiring operation in various weather conditions.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights and possess the physical ability to control crane operations over extended periods.
  • Use of personal protective equipment is a must for this role.

Reporting:

  • Typically reports to the Yard Supervisor or Equipment Operation Manager.
