Job Description

Position Summary: The Mechanic is key in maintaining the operational efficiency and longevity of the shipyard's diverse array of machinery and equipment. Beyond routine upkeep, this position extends to support roles, such as collaborating with stockroom clerks in fixing tools, procuring parts, and managing inventory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct maintenance and repair work on various equipment, including company vehicles, compressors, forklifts, manlifts, cherry pickers, and cranes.
  • Collaborate with stockroom clerks to assist in the repair of tools and the ordering of necessary parts.
  • Keep inventories well-organized to ensure quick and efficient access to parts and tools.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and act swiftly to prevent equipment downtime.
  • Document maintenance procedures and adhere to a regular service schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Proven mechanical experience with a variety of heavy machinery and industrial equipment.
  • Technical training or certification in mechanics, preferably within an industrial or marine environment.
  • Familiarity with parts ordering processes and inventory management.
  • Skilled in the use of mechanical diagnostic equipment and repair tools.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Predominantly on-site role at the shipyard, necessitating work both indoor and out, sometimes in harsh weather conditions.
  • Physical capability to handle heavy equipment, work in uncomfortable positions, and occasionally lift substantial weight.
  • Compliance with safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment as required.

Reporting:

  • Typically reports to the Maintenance Manager or Equipment Supervisor.
