Job Description

Position Summary: The Marine Joiner specializes in crafting and assembling various structural and design elements within marine vessels. This role encompasses the measuring, cutting, and installation of frameworks, flooring, ceilings, windows, and related structures, emphasizing precision and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Precisely measure and cut materials to create components for ship interiors, according to specifications.
  • Assemble and install frameworks, flooring, ceilings, windows, and other ship structures.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of installed elements, ensuring quality and conformance to design.
  • Collaborate with other tradespeople to coordinate the integration of joinery with other ship components.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment within the shipyard's joinery department.
  • Leverage a variety of tools and equipment to accomplish tasks effectively and efficiently.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with formal training in carpentry, woodworking, or a related trade.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a joiner, preferably within the maritime industry.
  • Exceptional skill in the use of hand and power tools associated with woodworking and joinery.
  • Keen ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, and an understanding of structural aesthetics.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and adherence to safety protocols.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Shipyard environment with activities performed both indoors and outdoors.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and working with hands are expected.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate materials and work in various areas of the ship under construction.

Reporting:

  • Reports to the Joinery Department Head or Shop Supervisor.
