Job Description

Position Summary: The Tacker is a vital member of the shipbuilding team, assisting in various stages of shop construction, fitting, and the launching process of vessels. This role involves diligently following supervisor instructions, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring the orderly conduct of the shop environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the construction and fitting phases of shipyard projects as per directed tasks.
  • Follow the guidance of supervisory staff to execute assignments efficiently.
  • Contribute to the preparation and launching of ships within the shipyard.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, conducting site clean-up as needed.
  • Organize shop materials and tools to facilitate smooth operational flow.
  • Assist other skilled tradespeople in preparing materials and equipment for construction activities.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent schooling; technical training in a shipyard-related trade is a plus.
  • Entry-level position; no prior experience is required, but any construction or shipyard experience is beneficial.
  • Capacity to understand and follow verbal and written directives.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor tasks, including lifting and moving materials.
  • Willingness to learn and work in a team-oriented environment.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • On-site work at a shipyard, involving both indoor and outdoor tasks.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, standing for long periods, and possibly working in varied weather conditions.
  • Adherence to safety standards and the use of personal protective equipment.

  • Reports to the specific project Lead or Shop Foreman.
