Job Description
Position Summary: The Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Operator is an integral part of the manufacturing team, responsible for operating CNC machinery to cut steel plates. The role entails loading material, ensuring the proper functioning of the equipment, and maintaining the machine as per operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate CNC machinery, accurately manipulating steel plates from delivery to the machine for precise cutting.
- Maintain rigorous records of equipment maintenance and keep the CNC machine in optimal operating condition.
- Handle all aspects of rigging required for the movement of materials to and from the CNC machine.
- Conduct daily visual inspections of hooks, load lines, and magnets to ensure they meet safety standards.
- Interpret job orders and drawings to set up the CNC machine with the correct parameters.
- Collaborate with programming and engineering staff to troubleshoot any issues with the machine operation or output.
Qualifications:
- Vocational or technical training in CNC operation, machining, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience operating CNC machines, specifically within the metal fabrication or shipbuilding industry.
- Knowledge of rigging operations and the ability to conduct equipment safety checks.
- Understanding of CNC machine maintenance requirements and the ability to make necessary adjustments.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and job specifications.
- Good communication and coordination skills to work effectively with the production team.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Work in an industrial manufacturing or shipyard setting, primarily indoors, near heavy machinery.
- Frequent lifting of materials, standing for extended periods, and performing repetitive tasks.
- Usage of personal protective equipment and adherence to all safety procedures is mandatory.
Reporting:
- Reports to the CNC Department Supervisor or Shop Floor Manager.
