General Dynamics Electric Boat, established in 1899, has established standards of excellence in the design, construction and lifecycle support of submarines for the U.S. Navy.
Electric Boat has been supplying nuclear-powered Virginia-class fast-attack submarines to the Navy for 20 years, and is the prime contractor for the Columbia-class ballistic missile submarine program—the nation’s top strategic defense priority—which will replace the aging Ohio class of ballistic missile submarines. Electric Boat also performs submarine maintenance and modernization, engineering and design services, fleet support for all classes of submarines and concept and technology development. While Electric Boat's primary focus is on submarine production, the company actively participates in markets adjacent to its core business, leveraging expertise and technical innovation to naval surface ship and commercial nuclear programs.
Electric Boat’s primary operations are the shipyard in Groton, CT, the automated hull-fabrication and outfitting facility in Quonset Point, RI, and engineering facilities in New London, CT. With more than 23,000 employees, Electric Boat is among the largest manufacturers in New England. Our drive for excellence is reflected in our company’s purpose to deliver the advantage that protects our sailors, our families and our freedom.
